Leo wiped his hands on a rag that was more grease than cloth. “The internet is full of wiring diagrams for the 1G-GTE,” he grumbled. “The twin-cam turbo. Everybody wants the hotrod. Nobody saves the manual for the grocery-getter.”
There it was. A faded blue cover. Toyota’s official logo. The words: 1G-FE Engine – Mechanical, Lubrication, Cooling, Fuel – 1990-1998.

The rain hadn’t stopped for three days. It drilled against the corrugated roof of Leo’s garage, a relentless metronome marking the time he was losing.
