You look up. The air shimmers. A man in a corduroy jacket, with a beard of twilight and eyes full of spiral galaxies, sits on the edge of your cluttered desk. He smells of woodsmoke and ozone.

He nods toward the window. Outside, the stars have shifted. Constellations you don’t recognize wheel overhead. “The EPUB,” he says, tapping your screen

But the file doesn't download. Instead, the screen ripples like a heat haze, and your laptop’s fan whirs to a high pitch you’ve never heard before. Text appears in a terminal window that definitely wasn't open a second ago.
