But for a small, obsessive niche of producers and retro gamers, the JV-1010 has become something else entirely: The "General MIDI" Curse and the Soundfont Dream To understand the magic, you have to remember the pain of General MIDI (GM). In the 90s, if you composed a MIDI file on a Roland Sound Canvas, it sounded like garbage on a friend's Yamaha.
