Dan pulls Phil’s hand to his own chest. Over his heart.
Dan moves closer. Kneels in front of Phil. Takes his hands. How many towers have we climbed
(voice cracking): “Don’t.”
(from the doorway, not turning around): “You keep doing that.”
(almost whispering): “I saw a map. Back at the last camp. There’s a research station north. Old. Sealed. They were working on a retrovirus before the collapse. If anyone’s still there—”
